Richmond Fire handles traffic accident on I-95.


At 0723 hours, Richmond Fire and Emergency Services were dispatched to I-95 Southbound near the Hermitage Road overpass for a traffic accident involving a tractor trailer and a car. E-16 arrived on scene and discovered one person trapped. E-16 extricated the person from the vehicle and requested the HazMat Team for a ruptured saddle tank. Rescue 3 and HazMat 3 was added to the assignment and arrived on-scene to discover that the truck had hit the concrete bridge and had lost about 50 gallons of diesel fuel. Units did capture some diesel and placed it in an oil drum and place absorbent down. A clean up contractor was notified to assist with the clean up and removal of the diesel. All units cleared at 1022 hours.

Churchill fire sends 9 to the hospital.



On November 18, at 0831 Richmond Emergency Communications received numerous calls for an apartment fire in the 1300 block of Coalter Street. Initial calls indicated that several people were possibly trapped inside. Quint 11 arrived on scene with a 3-story apartment building with heavy smoke showing from the C side. Crews entered the building and discovered a downstairs apartment well involved in fire. 

Quint 11 launched an aggressive interior fire attack. The fire was contained to one unit of the building, although nine other units received smoke damage. The fire was marked under control in about 30 minutes. A total of 19 people were seen by Fire and EMS personnel, of those nine were transported to an area hospital. 

The fire caused $100,000 in damage and the investigation team has ruled it as accidental.

Structure Fire on N. Boulevard


On November 10th at 0053 units were dispatched to the 1000 block of N. Boulevard for a structure fire. Rescue 2 arrived on-scene with smoke showing from the middle bay of a strip mall. The fire was marked under control at 0122. The fire caused $90,000 in damage and is under investigation.

Halifax Avenue Fire


At 1249 on November 11th, Richmond Fire units were dispatched to 2100 block of Halifax Avenue for a reported house fire. Rescue 3 arrived on scene with a 2-story wood frame residence with flames visible on the D side of the structure. Rescue 3 and Q-13 entered the house and found fire on the first and second floor. The fire was extinguished with 1 ¾ handlines. The Red Cross was called in to assist four people displaced by the fire. The fire was marked under control at 1303. Fire investigators remained on scene until 1500.

East-end units battle house fire.


On Wednesday at 2342, Richmond Fire units were dispatched to a reported house fire in the 1200 Block of North 26th Street. Quint11 arrived on scene with a 2-story wood frame house with heavy fire showing from sides A & B. Units begin an aggressive interior attack but conditions begin deteriorating and units switched to defensive fire attack. Rescue 1 discovered one person trapped on the 2nd floor in the rear of the house and placed a ground ladder in service to remove that person. That person was arrested by Richmond Police and charged with arson. Units remained on location unit 3 a.m.
